1. About this policy
Laser Safety Compliance Australia ("we", "us", "our") provides laser safety education, online training courses and related compliance information to Australian workplaces.This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we store and protect it, and how you can access it or make a complaint. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).By using our website or enrolling in one of our courses, you agree to the handling of your personal information as described in this policy.
2. What personal information we collect
We collect only the information we need to deliver our services:**When you enrol in or complete a course**- Your name- Your email address- Your employer or organisation name (where you provide it)- Your course progress, assessment answers and results- The date you completed the course and details of any certificate we issue to you**When you purchase a course**- Billing name and email address- A transaction reference from our payment providerWe do not collect, see or store your credit card or debit card details. Payments are processed directly by our third-party payment providers (see section 5).**When you contact us**- Your name, email address, phone number (if you provide it) and the content of your enquiry**When you visit our website**- Standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type and pages viewed, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see section 8)We do not collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act (such as health information or biometric information) through this website or our courses.
3. How we collect your information
We collect information directly from you when you fill in a form, enrol in a course, make a purchase or contact us. We also collect limited technical information automatically when you browse our website.If you enrol on behalf of another person (for example, an employer enrolling staff), you must have that person's consent to provide their details to us.
4. Why we collect and use your information
We use personal information to:- Provide you with access to courses you have enrolled in- Record your progress and assessment results- Issue and verify certificates of completion- Process payments and issue receipts or tax invoices- Respond to your enquiries- Send you course-related administrative messages, such as enrolment confirmations, receipts and certificates- Verify the authenticity of a certificate if you or your employer asks us to, or if a regulator requests confirmation- Improve our website, course content and services- Meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligationsWe do not currently send marketing or promotional emails. If we introduce these in future, we will only send them to people who have opted in, and every such email will include an unsubscribe link.We will not use your personal information for a purpose unrelated to those above without telling you or obtaining your consent.
5. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run our business, and only to the extent needed:- LearnWorlds — our online course platform, which hosts course content, enrolments, progress records and certificates- Payment providers (Stripe and PayPal) — process your payment and handle all card data directly. They are PCI DSS Level 1 service providers and are subject to their own privacy policies- Email delivery providers — deliver administrative messages such as enrolment confirmations, receipts and certificates- Our accountant and professional advisers — where reasonably requiredWe may also disclose your information where required or authorised by law, including to a court, tribunal, or a state or territory radiation safety regulator. For example, if you rely on one of our certificates to support a licence or radiation safety officer application, the relevant regulator may ask us to confirm your enrolment, assessment results or completion details.
6. Overseas storage and disclosure.
Some of our service providers store data outside Australia.Our course platform, LearnWorlds, is operated by a provider based in the European Union and hosts data on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, which includes data centres located in the United States and the European Union. Our payment providers and email providers may also store or process data overseas, including in the United States and the European Union.By providing your personal information to us, you consent to it being stored and processed overseas as described above. We take reasonable steps to ensure our providers handle your information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, but privacy laws in those countries may differ from Australian law.
7. How we protect your information.
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include:- Using reputable platform and payment providers that encrypt data in transit and at rest- Serving our website over HTTPS- Restricting administrative access to accounts to those who need it- Using strong, unique passwords and multi-factor authentication on our administrative accounts- Not storing card details ourselves at any point. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure. While we take our obligations seriously, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will assess it and, where required, notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
8. Cookies
Our website and course platform use cookies, which are small files stored on your device. We use them to keep the site working properly — for example, to keep you logged in to your course, remember your preferences, and maintain the security of your session. These are necessary for the site to function.We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or to track you across other websites you can disable or delete cookies through your browser settings. If you do, parts of the site — including course access — may not work correctly.
9. How long we keep your information
We keep training and certification records — including your name, course completed, assessment result and completion date — for at least [7] years. This is so we can verify a certificate if you, your employer or a regulator asks us to, and so we can meet our record-keeping obligations.Financial and transaction records are kept for at least 5 years as required by Australian taxation law.Enquiry correspondence is kept until it is no longer needed, or until you ask us to remove it.When information is no longer needed and we are not required to keep it, we destroy or de-identify it.
10. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Contact us using the details in section 12.We will respond within a reasonable period, normally within 30 days. There is no fee for making a request, though we may charge a reasonable cost for retrieving and providing extensive information. If we refuse a request, we will explain why in writing.You can also ask us to delete your information. We will do so unless we are required to retain it — for example, certification and financial records under section 9.
11. Children
Our courses and website are intended for adults in workplace settings. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have done so, please contact us and we will delete it.
