Welcome to Laser Safety Compliance Australia ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms and Conditions govern your use of lasersafetycompliance.com.au (the "website"), the articles, guides and free resources published on it, and our free online course. By accessing or using the website, our resources or the course, you agree to these Terms.

We do not currently sell products or paid services. Separate terms will apply if we introduce them.

1. About this website

This website is published by Laser Safety Compliance Australia, a business providing educational information, free resources and laser safety awareness training for Australian workplaces. Content is written or reviewed by Oliver Ried, B.Vis Sci, M.Optom, Grad Cert OHS, drawing on legislation, regulator guidance, Australian Standards and peer-reviewed research.

2. General information only, not professional or legal advice

The website, our free resources and our course provide general educational information only. They do not constitute:

  • legal advice

  • occupational health and safety advice specific to your workplace or equipment

  • a substitute for a laser safety officer, a radiation safety regulator or a workplace risk assessment

  • confirmation that you comply with any Australian Standard, legislation or regulatory requirement

Laser safety obligations vary by jurisdiction, laser class and workplace. You should seek independent professional advice, and consult the relevant state or territory regulator, before relying on our content to make workplace safety decisions.

No adviser-client, consultant-client or optometrist-patient relationship is created by your use of the website, our resources or our course.

3. Accuracy and currency of information

We take reasonable care to ensure our content is accurate and evidence-based at the time of publication, and we explain Australian Standards in our own words. However:

  • laws, standards and regulatory guidance change over time, so content may become out of date

  • we do not warrant that our content is complete, current or free from errors

  • we are not responsible for any action taken, or not taken, in reliance on our content

If you become aware of an inaccuracy, please contact us so we can review it.

4. Free resources

Our free resources include A practical framework to help businesses meet laser safety obligations and the Practical Laser Risk Management Self-Audit.

  • The self-audit is voluntary. Completing it, or following the framework, does not guarantee compliance with work health and safety, radiation or any other laws.

  • Each workplace is different. Persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) remain responsible for identifying hazards, assessing risks and deciding which controls are reasonably practicable in their own workplace.

  • Where our resources differ from legislation, a regulator's requirements or an Australian Standard, those sources prevail.

  • The Important information section of the framework forms part of these Terms.

5. Our free online course

Our laser safety awareness course is hosted on a separate platform provided by LearnWorlds. When you use the course platform, LearnWorlds' own terms and privacy policy also apply.

Your account. You must give accurate details when you enrol, keep your login private, and not share your account or complete the course for someone else.

Certificates. A certificate of completion shows that you completed an awareness-level course on the date shown. It is not a laser safety officer qualification, a licence, or evidence that you are competent to operate any particular laser. Employers remain responsible for system-specific training and supervision. You must not alter a certificate or misrepresent what it shows. We may confirm whether a certificate is genuine if you, your employer or a regulator asks.

Changes to the course. We may update, suspend or withdraw the course, or its content, at any time. The course is currently free. If we introduce fees in future, we will tell you before you are charged, and you will not be charged for a course you have already completed for free.

6. Intellectual property

All content on the website, in our free resources and in our course, including text, graphics, logos and course materials, is owned by Laser Safety Compliance Australia or used under licence, and is protected by Australian copyright law, unless otherwise stated.

What you may do. You may view, download and print our content, share links to it, and copy or distribute our free resources within your workplace for workplace safety purposes, provided you do not change them and you keep our name and the version shown on them.

What you may not do without our prior written consent:

  • sell, charge for or otherwise use our content for commercial purposes

  • modify our content, or present it as your own or as someone else's

  • republish our content on another website or platform, or use it in training you deliver to others

We do not reproduce the text of any Australian Standard. Australian Standards are available from Standards Australia.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • use the website or course for any unlawful purpose

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, the course platform or other users' accounts

  • copy content in bulk, including by automated means, except as allowed in section 6

  • falsify or misuse a certificate of completion

8. External links and third-party content

The website and our resources link to third-party websites, such as regulators, legislation databases and research publishers. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy or availability of those websites, and a link does not imply endorsement.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Laser Safety Compliance Australia excludes all liability for any loss, damage, injury, penalty or expense (including indirect or consequential loss) arising from your use of, or reliance on, the website, our free resources or our course

  • nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law

  • where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited, at our option, to supplying the relevant information or service again, or correcting the relevant content

10. Availability

We do not guarantee that the website, our resources or the course platform will be available, uninterrupted or free from errors at all times. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of them without notice.

11. Privacy

Our handling of personal information, including information you give us when you enrol in the course or contact us, is set out in our separate Privacy Policy. Our website does not use cookies. The course platform does, under LearnWorlds' own policies.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, including if we introduce paid courses, products or services. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the website, our resources or the course after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria.
